What a Week

Ah, Friday.  You can’t possibly know how delighted I am to see the end of this week.

I’m sure you’ve had weeks like this – we all have.  A week where every possible thing that could go wrong, does go wrong.  A week where nothing conspires in your favor.  A week which, by the end of it, you’re almost fearful of getting up in the morning because who knows what could happen next.

Well, if the meteorologists are correct, when I get up we’ll apparently be in the midst of a blizzard.

So much for Friday being the end of this.

I should be grateful, I know.  None of the irritating, annoying, disrupting things that happened were life threatening to me or anyone I love.

But still…major new projects at work completely destroyed my plans to work ahead in anticipation of being away next week, so now I’m behind the eight ball big time.  Our mail order prescription drug company completely erased all our records, just in time to renew all the prescriptions.  The postman hasn’t delivered our mail since we returned from Florida, so apparently I’ll have to make a trip to the post office and pick it up (since they won’t answer the phone!!)  And now this huge snowstorm is coming, foiling my plans for Friday, which included going back to the office, getting the dogs haircuts, and rehearsing with students for a music competition on Saturday.

Which one of the cosmic entities have I offended?  Did I enjoy myself  a little too much last week in Florida?  Is that not allowed in this universe?

I suppose it’s the control freak in me, but these kinds of events, especially coming head over heels on top of one another, just send me screaming for the nearest exit.

So perhaps it’s good that tomorrow might find me snowed in.  A day of enforced peace and quiet, a day to sit in the easy chair, wrapped in a snuggly blanket, watching the snow come down.  A day to relinquish my white knuckle grip on life and all its vagaries and just breath easily for a while.

I could certainly use that.

Because it’s been quite a week.

How about you? What kind of week did you have?

  1. I can relate. There’s always a problem with the mail when we go to/from Floyd & Florida. I finally set up all my critical mail (ie, bills) to be received electronically.

I happen to agree with you about the bad weather coming at a good time for you. Don’t be frustrated by it, but rather, use the down time to gather your wits.

  2. Hi Becca,

I’ve had an interesting week, but not as interesting as I expect next week to be. I’m in transition. Needed change is coming, welcome change, yet a part of me is afraid:fear that I don’t deserve good to come to me so I’m afraid somehow my good will be snatched even before I can touch it.

I have the day off and I am snowed in. Rather than complain, I’m going to find a way to enjoy it.

I like your space here. It is one place I truly feel you want dialog. The blogosphere seems so one-sided to me: everyone wants to be read but where is the dialog between reader and writer? I’m new to blogging and the lack of back-and-forth posts is a big adjustment for me, an online vet whose accustomed to chatting regularly.

  3. June-thank goodness for electronic mail and bill pay- it’s a godsend for those of us who travel a lot.

Susan-I know that feeling well, the fear of undeserving. I’ve always been really fortunate in my life, and sometimes have this unnerving feeling that my luck will run out. It’s hard for me to face change with anything but trepidation. And thank you for your kind words – I do like to hear people’s stories, so you’re quite right – this is a place for dialog. I’m glad you’re participating 🙂

  4. I have had weeks like that.

I just heard on the television that bad weather is heading our way also. I hope you can relax and recover from your week, maybe even lay up some reserves for the week to come. Breath.

  5. Becca, if I were to tell you that you need to have bumps in the road in order to properly appreciate when things are going well, would you throw a virtual flower pot at my head??? Breathe, grasshopper!! 😀

  6. Hmm. I’ve had a busy week – slightly too busy. Snow forecast for today didn’t appear, but it’s begun tonight, so tomorrow may be white again. I had a fall on tuesday, hurt my hand and my knees, and have been very sorry for myself all week. I’ve had better weeks, but then again, I still managed to meet all my commitments, and now I’m feeling better and looking forward to a weekend holed up at home.
